100WC

I’ve recently married a man who has two small toddlers. The children and I are still getting to know each other. Then one day my husband disappears suddenly, leaving only this short goodbye note sitting on the piano.
Dear Clara, Bella and Julie
I’m sorry
So I must
Love Dad.
The writing is a faded green and is not legible through the whole letter. I’m now stuck with two tiny problems. His daughters. The next day I’m heartbroken and I still don’t know why he left. My husband had tempers running high recently and then the boss finally exploded and fired him. But why leave...

I was in a piano lesson when suddenly my vision went all funny. It felt like my eyes had exploded. Blur is all I see. The blur has gone down. The piano was now green. I heard my piano teacher’s voice asking if I was okay. I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I turned around and looked at my teacher. She was the size of a tiny mouse. My piano took my hand and leads me to my class. It was like my legs were made out of gummy worms…. The next day I felt sorry .I don’t even know what caused it.

Shared lunch

Today we had a yummy shared lunch for the end of the term. We each brought a plate or packet of food so we could have fun for the last day of term. It was so fun and we all got a good amount of food. There were things like fudge, fish and chips, lollies, and muffins.

Animal Antics

On Tuesday we had our matinee performance for the production. On Wednesday and Thursday we had the night performances. The classes all had to be different animals. Room 1 were Elephants, Room 2 were Wolves, Room 3 were Dogs, Room 4 were African Animals, Room 5 were Monkeys, We were Native New Zealand Birds and Room 7 were the main actors and the Wild things. In each of our songs we had to do a background dance while the others in each group did their own dance. We all had a lot of fun and we can’t wait till next year!

Room 7 Camp Assembly

On the last day of term we went to room 7 camp assembly. Fist they started off with two boys acting out a play called goodnight.
Well in a way it was not the boys. Someone else’s hands were behind there back. They showed us lots of photos and videos.  They also did a play called Mrs Brown’s boys.  It is a really funny T.V show.  It was really funny to watch.

Rocket Fun.

Today on the last day of school Mrs K thought we would have a fun day. We already had a bottle, vinegar and baking soda. With the bottle there was a tube that held baking soda. In the bottle there was the vinegar. We had two attempts, they both failed. It was probably because we didn’t shake the bottle enough. Third time lucky? Yes third time is lucky. Mrs K held the bottle and shook it violently. When she let go of the stopper it burst all over Mrs K. That was the best part!

Drop, cover, roll...

Today we joined with people all around our country in the New Zealand Shake Out!

The alarm sounded three short, sharp beeps and we...
dropped, covered and held!  We dropped to the ground wherever we were, and used one hand and arm to cover our head, eyes and ears and we held onto something solid.

It felt really good because we know what to do if there really is an earthquake.  It felt weird because there wasn't an earthquake but it was good to practise.  It felt awkward being under a table but if there was an earthquake I am sure it would matter as much. It felt unusual because we don't usually have earthquakes down here.

Check out the photos of us - we think we got it right!

We talked about what we would do if there was an earthquake at home.  We are going home tonight to talk to our families about what we would do.  We need to be ready!

We are also going home to get our kits ready in a safe place for an emergency.

We talked about what to do when we are at sports practise, or the supermarket, or up the street, or out in the playground...

We were just sitting down for dinner when

We were just sitting down for dinner when there is a knock.
I offer to get it hoping it'll be Pizza delivery. My mouth gapes open as I acknowledge the fact that the most displeasing person I’ve ever known is standing in my doorway.
Chirsty Stevenson. She smiles cheekily despite my vicious glance.
"If I wanted to talk to you I would have said" I grumble.
"Well I guess you hadn’t a choice" she replies, coming inside.
I poke a face behind her back and she slumps on the sofa
Then an ear splitting scream echoes around us, it sends a shiver down my spine.
"What was that?" ......................................................

We were just sitting down for dinner when...

We were just sitting down for dinner when the captain shouts. “The ship has been sabotaged, she is about to blow up! Abandon ship. Help is on the way.” Mayhem erupts. Everyone rushes for the lifeboats. I stuff some food down my jeans just in case. I scramble into the last boat with my friends and family just in time. As we sail away the ship blows up, KABOOM and vibrates the sea so violently that we nearly capsize. We’re desperate to find land. We come across a peaceful looking island. All we need is to survive for a few days, or would it be weeks?

Birds of a feather...

What an awesome Matinee Performance by the birds of a feather today....

New Zealand Shake Out

Tomorrow morning at 9.26am we are joining with an estimated 1.3million people around New Zealand taking part in the New Zealand Shake Out.  Check it out here and check back tomorrow to see how it went.  You might like to check out the video explained why New Zealand has so many earthquakes...

Trying on the New Sports Uniform.

Today I got to try on the schools new sports uniform. I got my picture taken with my brothers, Brendan and Jack, my sister, Johanna and a room 7 boy, Kyle. We had to put the uniforms on then we went outside in the shade and got our picture taken and the picture is going in the school newsletter. The sports uniforms look really cool. It was pretty lucky that we were chosen to get our picture taken in the sports uniform. I can’t wait until there is the next sports activity because our school will look awesome.
We would love to hear what you think of our new sports uniforms.  Please leave a comment to let us know....

100wc

We were just sitting down for dinner when.... our dog starts barking. I look out the window and see a weird looking shadow. I step outside the door. I can hear rustling in the bushes. My heart is pounding out of my ears. I take a peep around the corner of the house. I see the mysterious shadow again. All of the sudden the trash can tips over. I try not to make a sound. If it's a monster it might come after me. I might be it's meal. I start creeping forward again. Deep breathes. I look in the trash and it's a cat. Not so scary.

Room 6 had some very special visitors today...

Today our very special friends from Room 1 came for a visit!

100WC number two...

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who took part in the first 100WC for this term.  Here is the second challenge.  I hope you all get a chance to add your writing this week....
Please look carefully at the prompt. What do you notice? It does not have a capital letter so you can put it anywhere in your work. It does not have to go at the beginning!
… we were just sitting down for dinner when…
You have 100 words to add to these 8 to make a creative piece of writing. If you are unsure about anything please click the tabs at the top of the page or you can leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. The link will close at 9pm on Tuesday 25th September
Let’s get writing!

Bottle Bivy MAGIC!

Today we completed a very long journey.  It all began way back in term two when Mark Herring posted a picture of a bottle bivy online.  The collaboration began and we set off to complete the challenge....  We will share our timelapse footage soon....

Today we celebrated and we can't wait to bring the new learning space into play in our daily learning..... What do you think of the finished project?

Time for a rethink...

Today we finished our bottle bivy - well almost, we just need another 28 bottles to finish the entrance way.

For a long time now we have been reflecting on the set up in class and envisioning change.  The sun shone today and changed happened.  We emptied the class and started from scratch.... Oh the power of watching the learners reflect on each space, the furniture, the proximity, the light, the shade, the quiet.... and what a transformation we have made.  I can't wait to work in it for a day or two to see how well we have done with our options...

AKO - teacher, learner, leader, it was all on here in Room 6 today!

We have realised that we need to do a lot of work on our maths strategies.  We need to see problems and maths in a context and we need to discuss and share our strategies, our understandings and our approaches to problem solving.  Check out the action in Room 6 today!  Mrs K loved watching us collaborate, network, share, discuss, challenge... then teach others and work through a real range of problems.  Sometimes a teacher learns most when she is a silent observer.....
