Big Day Out

Laura's swimming reflection 6

Yesterday we had Mrs D in class to take us swimming. It was a very quick
walk down and back. I achieved some of my goals. They were 400metre freestyle
and backstoke. It was quite a challenge for me but I knew I had to do it.
On Thursday after swimming we are going to the library and the park. I can't
wait.

Snow Globe Laura

If I lived in a snow globe it would be peacful. Everyone will be happy.
The snow will come flowing down. White snow flakes on my face. Wear a coat
otherwise you will freeze. We would live in wood cabins that we hand built
ourselves. There would be trees that children can build huts in. The town
will be called Snow Ville. Motto is : Snow Ville, where everyone is happy.
That is my Christmas wish. To live in a snow globe.

Laura's swimming week 2

Today we started another week of swimming. Tomorrow I have to 400m
freestyle and backstroke for my goals. That is 16 lengths of the pool. It
will be a challenge for me, which is a good thing. I'm looking foward to
having Friday off again because we get to go to the beach.

Laura's swimming reflection 4

Swimming session 4

Today I achieved some of my goals. They were 200m Freestyle and 200m
backstroke. The freestyle was easy but the backstroke was quite
challenging because it is not as fast as freestyle. My mum was walking
with us but we left early. She had to run down the road to catch us. It
was cold so she would be warm after that. We have four more days to swim
next week but tomorrow we have a break.

Lauras swimmng reflection 2

Today swimming was awesome because at the end we played a game. We even
had our groups sorted and prepared to swim. The strokes we did were
freestyle and backstroke. We did 200m freestyle. It wasn't hard for me
because I do it every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I had a different
teacher than yesterday. Swimming is awesome on a hot day.

Laura's Midas story

Midas
Once upon a time I made a wish. My wish was that everything I touch turns
into gold. My wish was granted on the top of Rainbow Land's tallest hill.
It's called Wishing Hill. The person who gave me the wish was Olympus.
He is a God. My name is king Midas and my crown is the shiniest crown in
the world. I have just touched a bird and it fell out of the sky. Can't
think why. I live in a blue mansion with a rainbow on the horizon. I have
gold plates and tea cups. Olympus said, "To erase the spell you have to
touch the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow". It is a 50, 50 chance
that I will touch the pot of gold. For now I'm happy with my gold
cutlery.

Swimming Laura

Swimming session 1

Today we went swimming at Mosgiel pool. We walked down there at 10 past 9.
On Friday we got a swimming cap. It was white. At the pool I was the only
person who wore it in the class but I always wear it. It makes me go
faster because without a cap your hair gets heavy and weighs you down.
Well…. That's what I think. We were assessed by a lady so we can be put
into groups tomorrow with people of our own ability. I think that swimming
will be a blast!

Laura's Rat's Tail Story

Today I brought in my knitted rats tail. My sister found it when she was
cleaning out her room. It was super long because she has had it since she
was little. It was really cool for her to give it to me. Its multi
coloured. They are dark and light colours. The doll I knit it around has
a face and some painted on clothes. You knit it with a knitting needle but
I tend to use a piece of wire. I will carry on making the rat's tail
longer until I decide to stop making it. That will be a while I guess. Now
I have two. I have a pretty pink one and a plain but long one.

How wet is too wet?

Today Room 6 went for a walk up the main street. We were looking for
evidence of what the heavy rain did to the street. We put on our vests and
hats and went to the back crossing. We walked straight down the road. We
stopped at a clothing shop. In the window was a machine that was absorbing
the moisture and spitting it out through the tube. We took lots of photos
of this wonderful machine. We kept on traveling down the road to see signs
of the flooding. The drains were blocked on Sunday so the rain made the
gutters flood. There were also heaters in the real estate building. They
were drying the carpet and it was hot in the building. The smell was
really strong. There was quite a lot of building that had water in them.
As Room 6 says "How wet is to wet?"

Laura's 100 word challenge

There it was, the last piece of chocolate in the bowl. Should I eat it?
Will I get in trouble by my Dad if I eat it. I reached for the bowl when
all of the sudden my Mum walks in.
"What are you doing Charlie?" said Mum.
"Nothing" I replied. I ran to my room. I hear my Brother Riley's footsteps.
He's heading to the kitchen. Mum went outside. Footsteps start
again. The door opened and I heard a scream. Mum yelled "Riley!!" Dad
arrived. He didn't mind because Riley is 2. Should've eaten it after all.

Laura's 100WC

Grandparents are important because they are part of our family. They care
for us. If your grandparents are like mine they will spoil you. Great
presents I will see because they will always love me. Endless time to
spend with us. Sometimes there will be the odd story about my parents.
That doesn't bother me. I somehow find them quite funny. She takes me
places and out for lunch. Time is precious because one lives in town.
Family celebrations are good for me because I get to see my grandparents
and aunties. What would the world be like without grandparents? Who will
ever know?

Laura's school move

Today before morning tea my class went to visit the new school. A lot had
changed. The building frames were up. We could imagine a class room. We
also saw a truck moving dirt piles. The digger was loading the dirt onto
the truck and then the truck drove the dirt to another pile. There was
crashing and banging from here and there. It sounded like I was a builder
and I was building a house. I wish! I think the school will be finished on
time. I love the progress that the builders and landscapers are making.
I hope we get to visit once a week

Meeting Valerie Adams

On Wednesday Room 6 walked to the Warehouse to meet Valerie Adams. We were
all very pleased to see our hero. When she arrived we were waiting
outsideand we cheered. She was super tall. Mrs K went inside to
buy her book for her to sign. It was a book signing. We also made her a
book about the Olympics 2012. We got a big group photo with her. I was
standing beside her and she made me feel small. Some of the class got to
hold her GOLD MEDAL. They were very, very lucky. I think it was neat
meeting the world champion for shot put. I also think that she LOVED the
book we gave her and I think she will be doing a lot of reading this
weekend.  This was a neat experience meeting Valerie Adams.

Perspective artwork!

With Mrs Dykes we made perspective art work. We drew buildings and trees that get smaller so it looks like you are looking down a road. Then we drew a road going down the middle of the page so that it looks like a city road and buildings. We drew a sunset to finish it off. After the drawing we used water paints to paint it and they look so stunning.

I like how I painted my buildings light on the front and dark on the side because they stand out more and look more three-dimensional.  I like the road, starting bigger and getting smaller in the distance. 

Meeting the All Blacks

On the 30th of October Room 7 and Room 6 went to Peter Johnson Park to
meet four All Blacks. They were Ben Franks, Ben Smith, Andrew Hore and
Tamatai Ellison. They are professional rugby players.

We got a BIG group photo with them. Then we had to line up to get their
autographs. There were about 5 schools. That meant the lines were long. I
got all of their autographs. It took about 1 and ½ hours. I didn't even
know this was happening. If so I would have brought my rugby ball. I am
going to put my poster on my wall.

I sure hope this happens again next year.

The Amazing School Fair

I was racing to the soak a senior realizing that Tyrin was on. I wanted to
soak him. I picked up the ball and aimed carefully. Sadly I missed. I got
another ball and aimed steadily. Missed. Last chance to soak Tyrin. This
time I was determined to get him. I grabbed the ball, took a deep breath
and I got him. I was pleased. I got a mini Moro Gold.

I got out my money and bought four tickets for the Tombola. I was feeling
lucky. I went in and won myself a Moro. I really wanted to win a scooter
but I didn't get it. I kept on trying and I ended up giving up because I
wasn't winning anything good. I love the Tombola.

The fair was a big hit and ex pupils even came to check it out. A minus
about the fair was that I got really sun burnt. I wish the lines were a
lot smaller.

School Move

In the holidays room 4 and 5 moved to our new school site. There is now a temporary wall beside room 3. It is so exciting to see our new school making progress.  A new countdown is going to be where our old school was. I think the school will be finished in time for the new school year. I didn’t see the move happen. In the new school designs, the school looks pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see what it looks like.
