Time for a rethink...

Today we finished our bottle bivy - well almost, we just need another 28 bottles to finish the entrance way.

For a long time now we have been reflecting on the set up in class and envisioning change.  The sun shone today and changed happened.  We emptied the class and started from scratch.... Oh the power of watching the learners reflect on each space, the furniture, the proximity, the light, the shade, the quiet.... and what a transformation we have made.  I can't wait to work in it for a day or two to see how well we have done with our options...

Reading on the I-pads!

Today in reading stamina Room 6 students were not only reading from books but from I-pads. On my I-pad I have my favorite series: Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene. The one I am reading now is the MYSTERY OF SHADOW RANCH. It is very fun to read on devices and easy too. I think that all children learning with I-pads should have at least 2-3 books, and sometimes they even read it out to you so you can follow along. In between the chapters in my book you can earn icon’s called “collectables” then once you have earned them all you get to play a mission to unlock another book but you can only get the next book once you’ve found ALL of the collectables and unlocked every end chapter. It is fantastic to be able to read on I-pads and I recommend them for everyone who owns an I-pad.

Reading on my iPad

Reading on an iPad
In room 6 we have our iPads and iPods and we have just started reading on our iPads. After morning tea we have stamina.  We read for about 15 minutes. I read on my iPad. I have lots of fun. I think it is better reading on an iPad because you can get books for free. Most of the books I have are good. I have lots of fun reading before bed.

Learning spaces

My favorite learning space is the cave because you can be in your own zone.  It is also quiet by yourself.  It is peaceful and you can concentrate on your work or what you are reading.  It is also really fun to be in and it is like you are in your own zone.  It is really cool and I find the difference that you can probably read more in the cave than on a deck.  I think that it is just that you can concentrate more and that is why the cave is my favorite learning space.

Play on the word CAFE!

Inside the class we have CAFE for our reading programme:
C omprehension
A ccuracy
F luency
E xpanding vocabulary
Outside the class we have a CAFE table!  Really it is just our outside learning table on the deck but it looks like a great spot for a Coffee and cake.  Karen and Lorie were the first to use the table for some exciting maths learning!

Time to farewell some desks...

Last week we removed all the desk inners.  It is magic.  We are soooo much more organised with our literacy learning kits and our books on shelves.
Today we decided to farewell a group of desks and use collaborative table space.  We are loving it.  We can now chose anywhere to sit and work.  We are really enjoying the flexibility and the extra space.

Goodbye desks...

Today we farewelled the insides of our desks...  We no longer need our own storage space and we are now free to work anywhere.  Tomorrow we are going to work out which desk groups can go to make room for tables.  We are loving the change to our learning spaces.

Learning Spaces to suit our learning.

In Room 6 we are experimenting with spaces to suit our learning!  We are working out which spaces work for us for which subjects!  What do you think of these spaces?

Our class Learning spaces

In room 6 we have all sorts of learning spaces. We have two desk where we can stand up and work. We can sit on the mat where it’s nice and quiet. We can sit next to the caterpillars on the couch! We can go outside and sit on the mat to work! We can work at our desk where we can get to everything. Mrs K lets us sit anywhere to work, it is really cool. We also use pen to write in our books.
