Animal Communities

In term 2 our topic was animal comunities and we had to choose our own inquiry to reseach on. My one was what is different about a lion's habitat and a lynx's habitat. I presented it on a powerpoint and my visual image was a poster. It took a while to research about both animals and then to put it into my own words, then I had to put it onto my powerpoint.  Once we were a fair way through our inquiry we had to start our visal image. We had to make an A3 page that was filled of photos. Yesterday we shared them and I learnt a lot from all the different inquiries.  It was interesting listening to the facts they told us. I think the speeches helped us a lot with presenting the posters not reading the posters. This year I think some people have come a long way.

Kiwi

I think i did very good because i was really nervous, .but when i was finshed it was not scary and it was not scary because some people had been up there first and they were not nervous.

Animal Inquiry Reflection

I made a mobile about extinct animals. I thought I did a very good job but it was not because I was working with Zara it was because I put alot of had work into making my visual poster and my mobile. Next time I would probably make my visual poster more of a collage and work by myself. My poster was very good because it had a lot of different facts on it. I think I would do a different thing than a mobile. You can come into class and see my poster and mobile for yourself so see you soon in class!

Kakapo

My animal inquiry is about Kakapo. I did this because Kakapo are my favourite animal but I did not know much about them.  I  did my reasearchon them .  I learnt lots about them.   I leant they sleep in rabbit holes and hollow trees.

Speech competition

Year 6, 7 and 8 are in for a chance to get into the final three.
We all had to write speeches. Year 6 and 7 had to write two  minute speeches. Year 8, three minutes.  There was a variety of different topics. Every speech was different and interesting.  First you had to get into the top six. Then it was judged by Mrs Dykes, Mrs Baines and Mr Brosnahan. You also had an audience. Room 6 and room 7. After break we got the news who got in and who was out. Josh, Callum and I got to represent year six, St Mary’s . It is on this Wednesday at 7:00 in St Mary’s hall.  If you win you get the Haddon Shield which is a great honor for your school. I am very nervous and hope to do well!

A little treat for our buddies...

Today we went to room1 to give them some sock puppet animals.  Mrs K bought them when she was in Christchurch. Mrs K bought them because it ties in with our topic animal community’s. Zack pulled them out from behind his back and they said “cool”. Then they had a turn each and Mrs K took a photo.

Cross Country

On Friday the 22nd of June the whole, entire school had cross country. We had the seniors first then the year 1’s. I thought it would be hard for the very little ones that have just stared because they would not have had as much training as the rest of us.  We had been training since the start of term 2 so we have all had millions of times practicing what we had to do. Next was the year 2s.  It was the girls first because we went girls first and then the boys. We then had the year 3s. The year 3s did very well, just like everyone because everyone tried their best. We then had the year 4s. They did an awesome job like everyone else. You could tell that people tried very hard because when they came to the finish line their faces were very red and the children were puffing hard out. It was then time for the year 5s. I was in the year 5 girls race and I came 1st. I was very proud of myself. It was then time for the year 6s. I was cheering for all my classmates because I couldn’t choose which one to cheer for. After the year 6s it was all over. My opinion is that everyone did a brilliant job even if they did not come a place so well done to everyone who participated!!!

More counting, more gluing, more layers...

Our buddies came for a visit!

We were very excited to have our special buddies from Room 1 visit us.  They look so cute sitting in our bottle bivy!  I wonder if we could build them one when we have finished ours?

National support staff day flowers

Today we made bouquets of flowers for the teacher aides.  First we stripped the leaves off. Second we put the flowers in a bunch. Then we tied cellophane around the bunch of flowers and tied a bit of ribbon around the cellophane. Then we put it in a bucket and at morning tea some people went and gave them to the teacher aides.

Bottle bivy build...

Today we have finally started on our class igloo! It looks fantastic! We have made it out of 366 milk bottles! WOW!
Firstly, we carefully taped together all the scraps of frontrunner we saved from St Clair school when they had their classes redone.
It was quite an effort to flip it over.  Do you like the pattern?
Then we all sat on it and declared it ready for the build....
Then we began the build.  We carefully marked out the outside circle using a pencil, string and a piece of chalk.  Teams worked together to glue bottles together in twos, then we began the first layer.  It was really hard to glue the first layer to the carpet.
We watched the video of the build online and checked we were ready!

After that it got faster and easier.  What amazing team work...

We are extremely grateful to Denise, Jacqui, Christine, Lynne and Sandra who all came in and helped out during the day!  We are hoping for lots more help over the next few days.
We had visits from Room 1, Room 4 and Room 7 throughout the day and we skyped Myross Bush School from Invercargill and Rosmini College in Auckland.

We are very proud of our efforts today!

So many injuries in Room 6!

What a lot of injuries we have had in Room 6.  We have had 3 fingers in splints and an arm in a cast!  We have been doing a lot of typing instead of writing!

Have you filled your hamburger?

Check out this great graphic from Amanda!  Have you got all the filling in your persuasive text?

Persuasive Strategies...

Here is another great site to check out!  I wonder if you can use any of these in your argument?
The Persuasive Strategies PowerPoint offers some of the more common techniques.

Prepared Speeches - Persuasive text...

It is very exciting to read and listen to your written debates.  You are really developing your skills.  I think this site might help you as you prepare...  Work through the process a couple of times with practice arguments.  It would be a really good idea to get your family to talk over your argument with you!  Maybe you could share your ideas with them and they could help you add to your persuasion...
Maybe you could save your ideas and add them to the wiki to share tomorrow.

CHECK this out!!!

Tonight, I was searching for information to help Georgia with her inquiry and look what I found!  It is amazing to check out the differences around the world.  I would love to see your comments on the differences...

A whole lot of questions....

What is it?
Where is it from?
What will be inside it?
How long has it been like this?
What was it in?
What colour is it?
What colour was it?
What happened to it?
