Callums Santa parade

At the start of the Santa parade there was bagpipers and then the police
car drove by and the Santa parade started. Then the sponsors drove by.
Then the floats came.  There was babie, marchers, lego house, jack and the
bean stalk, lightning Macqueen and tow mater, flnntstones, a dragon, more
FM, seven dwarfs, brass band and santa and even more. This was one of the
shortest Santa parades we've ever had.  It only went for half an hour. Every
year we book a cafe called cargolls right at the start of the parade. We
sit on the deck and watch the parade go by and we order chips and drinks.

Callum's limerick

There was a young lady called Sue
Who got stuck in a portaloo
She screamed and shout
And stomped about
That was the end of Sue

Callum clock tower

Once upon a time there was a mystical village, a bright vibrant village
full of colour. In the middle of the village was a clock-tower and in the
clock-tower was a girl who powered the clock. Balloons started floating
everywhere. The little girl gazed at the balloons through the clock-tower
windows. She stopped to open the window and carried on doing her job
cranking the clock. She stopped a few minutes later and went down the
clock-tower steps to go to have a look outside. Everything turn to black
and white and paused. Whenever the girl touched something the colour came
back and when she let it go it turned black and white and paused. She went
back to the tower and everything went back to normal.

Callums Main St walk

Today after prayers we went for a walk down the Main St to see the damage
from the flooding in the weekend. When we were walking we saw
dehumidifiers and fans sucking the moisture out of the carpet and whatever
else is wet. We went into Living Corporation Real Estate and it smelt really bad, it was
like the butterfly museum, but worse! They had fans and dehumidifiers. You
could see the line of mud were the water had been. We saw the lady in
the magazine shop and she explained why it had flooded. We walked right
round the block.

100wc

Grandparents are important because they spoil us with all sorts of things.
They take us on trips were we would never go with our parents. An example,
my grandad takes me up to Roxborough without my brother or parents.
Grandparents always keep in touch with you. They Skype you whereever they
are. At Christmas they come to watch us open our presents and to give more
presents. My favorite memories are when we spend time at Christmas dinner
and going places with them. Most of my grandparents have full time jobs so
its always good to spend quality time with them.

Meeting the all blacks

Today room 6 and 7 went down to Peter Johnson park to meet the All Blacks.
We got to meet Andrew Hore, Ben Smith, Ben Franks and Tamiti Ellison. We
got our class photo with the All Blacks and we had to line up for their
autographs.  We got a poster to put their autographs on and we got to go to
get all the signatures. We were there for about an hour and a half and we
spent half the time in the lines. But it was worth the wait.

Fair

On the 28 of October St Marys Mosgiel had a school fair.
I had to come to the fair a bit earlier than all the other people so that
mum could set up her cake stall. As soon as the bell rang for the start I
went up to get a drink with my friend and then we went for a wander round
all the stands. Then I caught up with some of my friends and next door
neighbor and we talked for a while then we saw Thomas getting a fake cut
on his arm. It looked so realistic. I got some chips for lunch and shared
them round. I watch the soak a senior, it was pretty funny and now I wish
I had a go. I went to see my mum at the cake stall and I bought a cupcake
and got some lollies. I didn't finish my lollies at the fair .I took them

home and gave some lollies to my friends. I thought the fair was great.

School move

Just before the holiday's room 7 cleared the things out of room 4 and 5 to get ready for the big move. Then in the holidays the contractors were jacking up the class rooms. Then a house moving truck came and they took the classrooms down the road where the site was cleared for them. They drove the truck away and left the class rooms on the trailer. They are meant to put the class rooms down on the foundations.

Grizzly Bear

All I see is bush, lush green bush and you guess it grass. I’m a dark brown bear and I’m quite an old bear. I wander the forest on two legs just like you. I’m a carnivore that means I eat meat. Oh no, got to run, hunters or the zoo, whatever it is, they’ve got a gun so I’m on the run. Now they’ve caught me. I realize it’s the zoo doing a check up on the bears in the forest . I was getting just a wee bit worried about that. Now it’s time to find some food for tea. But all I see is bush and grass. Then I see something white in-between two trees. It’s a rabbit, what a perfect meal. I walk silently behind it and I get it. Time to tuck in.

The unwanted dog...

Skinnier than a pencil. Wondering round the lonely roads of an abandon town. Its dark, wet and I’m dripping like a broken tap and I’m drenched. I’m rummaging for food. Looking in every nook and cranny. Hiding from the people that take you to the pound. I’ve got quite a sad life to be honest. Just dumped on the side of the street just as a new born. It’s just a continuous road to no where. Sleeping in the moon light beside a deep dark forest and you wake up hungrier than ever but that doesn’t. I’m just a dog unwanted by everyone, lost and unwanted that’s all I am. Nothing much to my life it’s the same each day. Guess what I eat rubbish or I don’t eat anything. That’s why I’m skinny; you can see my ribs quite clearly. Now you can how boring, sad and lonely it would be for you to be a stray.

Fox

I’m slinking smoothly though the forest, pad by pad hitting the dense forest. My bushy tail flicking round. Beady green eyes wide and alert. I move like a shadow, without a sound walk and slink. I move though the night.  That’s the safest way, because I’m not the prey. No time to stop. I’m in a rush. Suddenly two beaming yellow eyes pop out of nowhere. Adrenalin kicks in. I now know what it is. Hunters looking for my kind, you know a fox of course. Its either run or die, I know which one I want now lets put it into action. Its not hard.  I've done it all my life. Quiet running, easy as. Yellow eyes getting closer now better make a move. It turns out I was beside a road and a car was what I saw.

Joe the rabbit

My name is Joe the rabbit. I love to roam round in the tussock where I camouflage and eat the insects and bugs. I have a friend called Rocky the cheetah, who likes to try and eat me. Lots of hunters try to kill rabbit, but we have our own weapons, big ears, a big nose and very good eyes. Those are our weapons. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t and we get out smarted. We can also run like the wind. We dig borrows to live in. I made a very nice one that was so deep it took me a couple of days to dig. Then I put some stay in it for comfort. I have a family of four. I love them dearly. I hunt food for them to eat and we play family games like rabbit of cards. After we finish the games I send the bunnies off to bed. Then my wife stays back while I look for a new place for a hole. One night I was out and I heard a truck that had a bright light moving round and they spotted me. I stopped because I was startled. Then someone one got out and took a shot at me but fortunately it missed. I ran straight back to my hole. It was a rough adventure up the rocky hill to get to my hole. The bunnies were hungry and screaming for food. I had two options, one was stay there and listen to them scream or go find food. I chose to go find food, now it is pitch black. I’m scared but I know I’m doing the right thing. I found a few beetles and six ants. When I came back my bunnies were still screaming, but when I gave them some food they went quiet.

Space Experiments

Today Amadeo came to our school to do some space experiments with us. First he took out a bowl full of water then he poured dry ice into it. We made a mini comet. The comet made mini explosions, it shook the ground. Then he got out a bottle of liquid nitrogen and poured it some on the floor. It made little clouds of evaporated liquid nitrogen. It was so cold. He got a bowl and put some liquid nitrogen into it and we started putting things in it. We put a metal spoon in it and then he tried to bend it and it snapped in half. Then we blow a balloon up and put it in the liquid nitrogen and the air inside the balloon turned to liquid air we cut it open and it went on the floor, it was a pathetic amount of it.

Our Visitors

Today we got 8 Waachi visitors. When they got here we sang haere mai to them and then they went to room 7 for a wee bit and then they came to our class… then the fire alarm went and we went out side and did jump jam with them. When we got to the fourth song one of the visitors got up and did the action as a leader. After that we went to the courts and played some basketball.  They were too good for us, but they do practice 2 hours everyday. We played for 1 hour and10 minutes and the bell rang and we were all like “oh now we have to go inside”. We got like 5 more minutes with them and then they had to go. I wish they could stay for the whole day but they had to go.

As the Ullrich aluminum ute pulled up ….

We could see the frame for the new bigger, faster and stronger bottle bivy. As he walked in we immediately noticed that it was a lot bigger than we expected. Mrs K can stand up in it, that’s how tall it is. Any way back to the story, the frame wobbled like jelly. When we had all the frames in place Corey got a nut and bolt and screwed it onto the frame and then it didn’t wobble as much. Then he came in with 250m of industrial double sided tape and then we were off at the speed of light. Cory had an expectation of how high it would be and we bet it by about 2 rows. Today its got so high that only the very tall people can reach now...

Speech Competition.

Last night in St Mary’s hall there was a Taieri public speech contest. We were in the top 3 from St Mary’s Year 6. We all learnt a lot from this experience.

JOSH “I was first from St Mary’s. I was very nervous. Once I had started my speech I started to relax more. It was really fun”

CALLUM “I was nervous until I had to get up because I knew once I had finished I would chill out “.

ZARA “My legs were shaking as I walked up…
Ahh… Its over! No more! I am so calm as I listen to everyone else’s speech. A great experience for me.

Animal Communities

In term 2 our topic was animal comunities and we had to choose our own inquiry to reseach on. My one was what is different about a lion's habitat and a lynx's habitat. I presented it on a powerpoint and my visual image was a poster. It took a while to research about both animals and then to put it into my own words, then I had to put it onto my powerpoint.  Once we were a fair way through our inquiry we had to start our visal image. We had to make an A3 page that was filled of photos. Yesterday we shared them and I learnt a lot from all the different inquiries.  It was interesting listening to the facts they told us. I think the speeches helped us a lot with presenting the posters not reading the posters. This year I think some people have come a long way.

A little treat for our buddies...

Today we went to room1 to give them some sock puppet animals.  Mrs K bought them when she was in Christchurch. Mrs K bought them because it ties in with our topic animal community’s. Zack pulled them out from behind his back and they said “cool”. Then they had a turn each and Mrs K took a photo.

on the 6th of June......

Venus is going to cross the path of the sun and earth. You have to wear special glasses to look at it. When you look through it when it isn't pointed at the sun you can't see anything but then when you look towards the sun it appears a lot duller and you can see the dot.   Today we got handed out the glasses and at ten past eleven we went outside to have a look.  Venus was slightly to the right and near the bottom of the sun. Through the glasses the sun was orange and there was a tiny dot on it.  At ten to twelve we are going to look at it again and then at half past twelve we are going to see it. Then just before half past one when it is meant to be in the middle of the sun we are going to see it. We are going to this so we can see the difference of the planet's alignment. Each time we go out we are going to take a mind picture to memorise where it was when we look at it so the next time we look at it we can see the difference of the alignment. It really is a once in a life time opportunity. I find it quite interesting. We just went back out after lunch and it has moved right and up. It is heading towards the centre of the sun and this little tiny spectacle only comes every hundred and five years. it would almost be in the centre in an hour.

I like that the photo shows our vision.  We are confident, reflective, risk taking learners... learning under Saddle Hill!
